Cercle

A digital tontine that keeps the spirit of the system: trust, transparency, reminders.

Personal project — UX exploration, non-commissioned.

Context

A personal exploration around the tontine — rotating savings among peers, a pillar of saving in Togo, still run on a notebook and from memory.

Problem

Missed contributions, disputes over the order of turns, no traceability. How to bring transparency and automatic reminders without betraying the simplicity and trust of a system run among peers?

Persona

Afiwa

Trader at the Grand Marché in Lomé

Need : See at a glance who has paid and whose turn it is, and remind members without hounding them.

Process

  1. 01

    Immersion

Observing the paper ritual and its roles (president, order of turns) so as not to break what works.

  2. 02

    User flow

Create a circle → invite members → set the order of turns → contribute → receive your turn.

  3. 03

    Wireframes

Low-fi structure built on one visual metaphor: the circle that turns.

  4. 04

    UI

A clear interface, strong visual cues, designed for varied digital literacy.

Wireframes

Low-fi wireframes: a progress ring (the current turn), a member list with contribution status, a one-tap reminder screen.

Mocked screens

Salut Koffi 👋 petit rappel amical : la tontine attend ta cotisation de ce mois. Merci !

Contribution reminder

A friendly reminder, ready to send to members who haven't paid yet.

Takeaway

Hypothesis: the « circle that turns » metaphor would read more clearly than a table of figures for following the order of turns. To be tested with a few real tontines.
